synopsis:

László Csáki (1977) artist and animation film-maker, lives and works in Budapest.

“These are visual elements of a film, which until now have existed only in texts, in some cases rich descriptions. During the creation process of my works I don’t do anything else, but visualising the written story – like anybody else does during reading -, and later I try to find the technique that matches the pictures in my head. My approach naturally leads to the use several different mediums. I always need a story I can start work on. A story which turns my imagination on, which I can transform into pictures and wich makes me get lost in the details.”

He has been working in diverse media with various techniques, such as chalk-animation, documentary and short fiction film, staged photography, storyboarding, and marquetry inlay.  Often creates a very characteristic Middle Eastern European backdrop, which is then filled with surrealist, absurd, and lyric elements.

Some things are best kept secret and should stay hidden forever.  A  chalk animation based on one of Ambrose Bierce’s short stories.  A darkly-humorous thriller drawn with white chalk, telling the contemporary version of a timeless tale of greed and obsession to a modern audience.
